My Mona Lisa
I have always loved the stark contrast between black and white. Chinese ink painting is famous for creating another style of art with just black ink on white rice paper.
And with the addition of water the black becomes a multitude of gray shades in which to add more depth and dimension to an ink painting. Of course Chinese ink painting has increased it’s range with the introduction of various colors as well but personally I prefer the black ink on white more as it is simple and stylish.
This portrait is in my mind my very own version of the famous Mona Lisa . I call her My Mona … she is elegant and beautiful and unlike the famous painting is without a smile because she is without a mouth. None whatsoever. I just like keeping it unfinished in that sense but to me it looks complete. Tools used were a Chinese sable brush, black ink and rice paper.
Simple and sweet. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did painting my very own version of Mona Lisa. ![]()
